Found in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park lies a hidden gem of historical significance: the ancient rock etchings of Bumbusi. At Hideaways Bumbusi Wilderness Camp, we offer a unique walking safari that brings you face-to-face with these captivating remnants of early human history. The Bumbusi rock engravings are a collection of intricate etchings created by the San people, one of the region’s earliest inhabitants. These finely detailed rock etchings depict the spoor of game and many other wild animals, including very unique, life-sized human footprints. On these rocks, the engravings of spoor depict the extinct quagga together with the kudu, impala, wildebeest, waterbuck, roan, sable antelope, eland, giraffe, buffalo, rhinoceros, and warthog. Most of these species still wander the Hwange Game National Park encircling Bumbusi.
